What we do

EduDiverse are experts in using adventurous activities as a vehicle to engage children and young people.

We take students who are unable to access formal mainstream or specialist education and offer them a safe space to experience new activities and build trusting relationships. Each student will engage in a programme of adventurous activities and have the opportunity to achieve AQA Unit Awards.

Prior to the first session, individualised targets will be agreed with the organisation referring the child or young person and these will be reported against on a six-weekly basis.

How it works

Prior to the first session, individualised targets will be agreed with the organisation referring the child or young person and these will be reported against on a six-weekly basis.

  • 1. Complete the referral form

EduDiverse accept referrals from Schools and the Local Authority. We do not accept referrals directly from parent/carers. We offer educational experiences which supplement a wider academic offer. Generally our students attend for 1 day a week for between 1 and 3 terms.

EduDiverse do not accept referrals for full time education.

If you wish for your child to be considered for a place on one of our courses then please liaise with your child’s School, SEN Casework Officer or Social Worker.

To fill in the form, go here.

  • 2. Agree objectives and meet the team

EduDiverse and the referring school/agency will liaise to agree the programme of activities, curriculum and personalised targets for each student. Whenever possible, EduDiverse staff will visit each student in their setting or an alternative appropriate location prior to the course commencing.

  • 3. Start the programme

Students begin their programme of adventurous activities and accredited courses.

  • 4. Review and report

EduDiverse will report against learners personalised targets agreed on a 6 weekly basis. We will also provide attendance information for each session. EduDiverse will attend meetings/ provide information when appropriate for involved agencies such as SEN, Social Care, YOT and CCAMHS.

Panoramic Views

The facilities at our Chale site offers children and young people access to a world-class indoor skateboarding facility. Our indoor air-conditioned classroom, which has panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, has been designed as the perfect space for individuals or small groups of learners.

Activities

Surfing has become an established form of therapeutic support as evidenced in the UK by The Wave Project. EduDiverse offer students the opportunity to try surfing for the first time or continue to build their skills in a highly supportive environment.

EduDiverse through our activity partners have access to the best surf coaches on the Isle of Wight. Founder of EduDiverse, James Ranson is the Chairman of The Isle of Wight Surf Club and is passionate about the benefits of surfing for children and young people.

The Isle of Wight offers some of the best cycling in the UK. From light gravel cycle paths to hilly offroad terrain, there are routes for all abilities. Many of our mapped routes take students through areas of outstanding natural beauty giving them the opportunity to experience the natural environment in all its glory.

For those who are competent, we will visit the Isle of Wight Mountain Bike Centre where they can push the limits of their riding in a controlled environment.

EduDiverse skateboarding sessions are delivered in collaboration with Canopy Skate Park a world class purpose built skatepark set in the stunning scenery of the West Wight. One of the most striking things about skateboarding is that it is such an inclusive sport; skateboarding offers learners the opportunity to creatively explore the world around them without the rules and conventions of more traditional sport. It’s a sport tailor made for the neurodiverse!

Bushcraft is about learning and gaining confidence in the natural environment. As well as practical sessions using basic tools, we teach students about taking care of the natural environment and the value of being prepared for the conditions. As Alfred Wainwright once said, “There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.”

EduDiverse students have access to a wide range of sit on top kayaks to learn and develop their paddling skills on. One of the easiest watersports to learn, kayaking offers students the opportunity to explore the stunning Isle of Wight scenery under the instruction of experienced staff.

Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is the world’s fastest growing sport and for good reason, its very accessible and above all lots of fun. EduDiverse give learners access to a range of equipment starting from traditional paddleboards through to the Mega SUP which can take up to 6 people!

Archery sessions provide every student with the chance to experience success whilst developing a range of skills including accuracy, hand eye co-ordination and safety awareness.

The Island has some of the best paddleboarding locations in the UK! Our favourite spots to paddleboard are Freshwater Bay, Sandown Bay and the River Yar.

Fishing has become one of our most popular activities. We regularly visit a local farm’s lakes to take part in course fishing. The young people learn how to catch and release the fish safely to swim another day. For the more adventurous learners we will visit piers, beaches and use our small dingy for some inshore fishing.

Curriculum

Each student will have the opportunity to engage in a personalised curriculum offering the opportunity to achieve AQA Unit Awards

All EduDiverse curriculum sessions are supported by an experienced qualified teacher within our purpose built air-conditioned classroom or out on session.

Our classroom has panoramic views over the rolling countryside where students can experience learning in a calm and controlled space, taking into account their specific learning needs.
